  • SEARCA, the University Consortium, and SUC-ACAP plan for the capacity building of Philippine HEIs in Agriculture, Fisheries, and Natural Resources

    The Southeast Asian University Consortium for Graduate Education in Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC) and the State Universities and Colleges - Association of Colleges of Agriculture in the Philippines (SUC-ACAP) entered into an agreement for the project “Leveling Up Philippine Higher Education Institutions in Agriculture, Fisheries, and Natural Resources (LevelUPHEI AFaR)” implemented by SEARCA with funding from the Philippine Commission on Higher Education (CHED). The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will enable SUC-ACAP members to participate in UC activities, and send faculty/staff to the UC members on mobility.   • CLSU spearheads the International Summer Short-Term Course with SEARCA and the UC

    The Central Luzon State University (CLSU), in cooperation with the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) and the Southeast Asian University Consortium for Graduate Education in Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC), co-organized the International Summer Short-Term Course on mushroom farming, organic agriculture, aquaculture, and transboundary animal diseases.     Dr. Khaswar Syamsu, University Professor at IPB University in Bogor, Indonesia, delivered his SEARCA Regional Professorial Chair public lecture about "Increased Bioethanol Production Directly from Sweet Sorghum Bagasse using Mold and Yeast" on 6 July 2021, via Zoom platform. Dr. Syamsu discussed the importance of alternative renewable energy sources, as well as its compliance with the Indonesian Government regulation regarding the provision of use of alternative energy. In his presentation, he mentioned that bioethanol as biofuel has a relatively high production cost than petroleum fuel.   • DAAD-SEARCA scholar wins big at the 3MT Competition in Universiti Putra Malaysia

    DAAD-SEARCA scholar Nor Akhlisah Zulkipli won 1st Runner-up and People's Choice Award at the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) faculty level competition in Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) on 05 April 2021. Her win qualified her for the university-level competition where she bagged 2nd Runner-up on 22 April 2021. She was also chosen to represent UPM in the 3MT National Competition for the engineering category in June 2021. The 3MT competition was first developed by the University of Queensland and subsequently carried out in other Australian and New Zealand universities.   • SEARCA stays connected with virtual hangout for scholars

    The Education and Collective Learning Department (ECLD) of SEARCA conducted a virtual hangout with the scholars through the Graduate Scholarship and Institutional Development Unit (GSID). Despite communicating regularly through emails and other online messaging applications, SEARCA would like to situate its scholars given the challenges to their graduate studies in this new normal. Six sessions were held on April 19, 20, 23, and 26 for the full MS/PhD scholars studying at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universitas Brawijaya (UB), IPB University, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), and Kasetsart University (KU). Sanchez, a SEARCA scholar who just finished his MS in Agricultural Process Engineering at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) was awarded Best Oral Presenter during the Malaysian Society of Agricultural and Food Engineers (MSAE) Webinar-Conference 2020. The conference theme was "Makanan Kita, Masa Depan Kita" translated as "Our Food, Our Future" organized by the MSAE/Malaysian Ministry of Agriculture, UPM, and MARDI on 28-29 June 2020. Engr.
