The Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB), one of Indonesia’s premier agricultural universities has turned 50. A simple celebration was held on 1 March 2013 to open IPB's Golden Anniversary. At the program, IPB Rector, Prof. Dr. Herry Suhardiyanto expressed his deepest gratitude to all those who have helped IPB reach its current prestige.
According Dr. Suhardiyanto, "IPB is a campus with the most contributions in innovations." But whether or not these innovations are being enjoyed by the community is another question. Therefore, the Rector challenged everyone to make sure that IPB’s role in the bigger community is really felt, especially in addressing food security, energy shortage, poverty, and environmental degradation.
On the same occasion, IPB also conferred 825 graduates for the 2012/2013 Academic Year, making a total of 111,435 IPB alumni, dispersed all over Indonesia and the world.
